Activities for Personal Hygiene: Teach Your Kids Properly.
from: WiseWay.info
Learning about personal hygiene is a basic necessity. This should be taught by parents to their children at an early stage. They should impose knowledge about the importance of personal hygiene to their kids by showing them examples found in magazines, books and other educational materials.
The best way of teaching your kids about personal hygiene is through different activities on personal hygiene.
- The first learning activity is to teach the kids on identifying the areas susceptible to germs. Pictures can be used to let the child distinguish clean from dirty. They should be able to determine conditions by just looking at the pictures with activities done by the child such as playing. Remember to draw their attention to body parts such as the nose, hands and mouth. Ask them questions to check if they are learning.
- Check if the kids have learned the previous activity by demonstrating to them hygiene routines on the different body parts that need frequent washing. Make sure that you have taught the kids when to wash, take a shower or bath and brush their teeth. You need to show them through a role playing technique on the proper procedure on brushing their teeth, bathing and washing. Imply how hands become dirty most often due to touching of many things, and why it is important to always wash the hands to maintain its cleanliness.
- Teach your kids the importance of covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing and let them understand why it is important to wash the hands after the actions are done. Use a spray in order for the kids to know that residues are left after sneezing. Kids need to see the similarities and make a connection out of the activity.
- Teach the children the proper washing of hands using liquid or solid soap and a clean towel. They need to clearly follow the steps - from wetting the hands, scrubbing the hands using soap gently cleaning identified dirty parts including the palms, back of the palms, spaces between fingers, ends of fingernails, rinsing the hands thoroughly and drying it using a clean towel.
- Teach the kids the right manner of brushing the teeth using a toothbrush and toothpaste. Teach them the step by step procedure of brushing. They need to learn how to put toothpaste on the toothbrush and how to brush and hold it while brushing the top, bottom and front teeth and to rinse properly. Ask them how they feel and smell after the activities.
- Teach them when to change their clothes. Clothes eventually become dirty. Hence, changing has to be done especially when your kids are always active in playing. Clothes need to be changed when it is already dirty especially underclothes without fresh air. Due to its direct contact with secretions, they can be contaminated with germs. Explain to them as well why clothes need to be washed.
- Teach the children about lice. Explain to them its disadvantages and the procedure on how to eliminate them.
- Teach children about the importance of preventing infection in wounds through accidents or unnecessary circumstances such as falls and cuts. Explain to them the dangers of infection and the importance of cleaning wounds.
To make the learning activities more fun to kids, you can incorporate hygiene games for better understanding and more effective ways of teaching them all about proper hygiene and its importance.
